My Portfolio
This portfolio gives an in depth look to Johanna as an artist and creator.
Bio
Growing up in a small town with not a lot of resources for music didn't stop me from having music being biggest part of my life. Starting at 5th grade I was involved in band and choir all the way up to my senior year. As well as being the captain of the Color Guard team, part of Jazz band, and of the Chamber choir.
Now as a college student I study Music Business and Audio Engineering at Waubonsee Community College.
The Process
At Waubonsee we are provided with a professional grade recording studio set up with a variety of mics, a Drum kit, Bass, Keyboard, etc..
The audio software that I, as well as the rest of class used was Reaper.
The recordings showcased here are all for class projects. The assignments required us to use two different mics on each instrument, record a 1-minute-long song, then Mix and Master it.
Recording
The first two recordings were played by a friend named Julia; she came up with the tune (thank you Julia)
The first recording was recorded on a Sennheiser e 609 about an inch away from the Amp. The plugins I added were a De-hum and an EQ to quiet the low end.
The second version of the Recording was recoded on a AKG C214 about an inch and a half away from the Amp. The plugin added was just an EQ to help with the low end and not make the sound as Bitty.
This next recording was part of my second Project. All instruments played by me (This was the first time playing drums and piano) This recording was inspired from "GO!" by CORTIS
I used a AKG p170 on the high-hat 1 foot away from the middle, MA-200 on the kick drum in the hole, Shure SM57 4 inches above the middle of the keyboard, and a AKG p170 an inch away from one of the piano speakers.
I had to EQ both piano recordings to make them blend properly. I added compression on both the kick and High-hat, and the I tried to give the Kick a fuller sound though I am disappointed to admit you can't hear much of it in the recording.
This was my third project. Again, all played by me. The kick and Tom beat was taken from classic Hip-hop beats, the Piano was taken from "GO!" by Cortis, and the High-hat was my own flare.
I used two Sennheiser E614 on each piano speaker about 1 and 2 inches away, a Shure SM57 on Tom about 4 inches away, two Shure SM57 8 inches diagonally from the High-hat and 4 inches above, and a AKG C214 in the hole of the kick drum.
I used the LoudMax VST and Compressor on the kick, very slight reverb on both High-Hats as well as LoudMax VST on the closer mic, Compressor and De-Hum on both piano mics and an EQ on the closer mic.
